Joining Weight Watchers

I think I realized just how frumpy I’d become when my daughter informed me that the neighbor girl had said I was a “little fat.” My lovely daughter defended my honor and told me that she had said, in no uncertain terms, that her mommy is NOT fat. Bless her heart. I was flattered that the neighbor girl just said a little.

But I’m doing my best to defrump myself. My hair’s been coifed and colored for two weeks now. And while I’ve taken that first big step towards overcoming my Salonaphobia I have yet to tackle that aversion to healthy food. The one that’s made me a “little fat.” And a lot frumpy.

So last night, after one Last Supper at Wendy’s, I joined Weight Watchers.

Shortly after 7:30pm on Thursday night I was weighed in. I was assigned a healthy weight range. I was told about points. I was feeling thin already.

When joining any weight-loss plan one should journey with a friend, preferably the one who’s always told you that you’re not fat at all. I brought mine with me last night. And, happenstance, she weighed in at just .4 pounds more than me. She also happens to be 3 inches taller, but who’s counting, right? The best thing was she had the enthusiasm of someone twice her size. Throughout the entire meeting she acted like a Baptist at a Sunday revival. Only instead of “amen” or “hallelujah” she said “right on,” threatening a very weak hold on my composure.

But the fun stopped there when the facilitator, in attempts to demonstrate just how the point system works, asked me to share with the group what I had eaten for breakfast. Of course that’s what I had been dreading all day long on this, my last day fraternizing with Trans fats and fast food: the food confession.

“Uhm… A Sonic breakfast burrito…”

“A burrito?” She began thumbing through her book.

“Bacon, egg, and cheese,” I added. “With tater tots.”

Still thumbing.

“And a large diet coke with lemon.”

The dear facilitator skipped me and asked the lady to my left instead.

Okay, so maybe I got off on the wrong foot. But I am off. Off and running away from Frumpyville.

And as I was told last night, they’ll be seeing less of me next week (as long as I start seeing less of Sonic. And Wendy’s. And…).

That is so funny. I need to venture that way and every morning I tell mysef, "today I will eat right" and yet the world cruises by and I cruise through a drive thru. So I am going to have to take your lead and officially sign up to be accountable. Thanks for sharing.

Good for you, Shauna! I am a "lifetime member" of WW, and am a firm believer in their system! My dad (the doctor) actually recommended it to me after my kids were born, to help me loose the weight quickly and safely (I have a really bad back, and was taking too much medication to deal with the pain... it turns out, it was aaaalllll about the weight!) They'll teach you how to shop, how to cook, and that point system will get stuck in your head FOREVER. It's made such a huge difference in my life, and now my whole family eats healthier.

If you need a "buddy" to bounce recipes and ideas off of, drop me a line! I'm still "counting"!!

lots of love to you-- CGF xo

CFG, Oh, PLEEEEASE be my WW buddy. I've been walking around my kitchen with a sharpie, determining points and writing them on boxes, cans, etc. I REALLY need to go shopping for things with less points. AND I need to be able to cook dinners for my kids that I can eat too. Thank you, thank you!

Good luck and welcome to the club! I do weight watchers too (online). I definitely miss Wendys.

Yes, welcome. WW has helped me lose my baby weight almost twice. (I say almost because I am still 10 lbs. from the latter baby weight loss.)
I just have one comment. Why are you going to a meeting so late at night? You should go first thing in the morning, so you can weigh before you eat anything that day. It'll probably make a few pounds difference. Just sayin'.
Good luck to you!

Shauna ... Last year I stepped on the scale and had an "OH SH--!!!!!" moment ... it was motivation to DO SOMETHING.

Watching what I eat ... riding my bike ... skipping night time snacks ... limiting the AMOUNT of food ... only taking seconds once in a LONG while ... and being intentional about my food ... and in a few months I shed almost 50 pounds - and I feel great.

Take it one step, and one day at a time ... focus on THIS moment, not the goal, because one day you will suddenly realize that you DID IT!!!

Way to Go !!!!
Happy Health!!

I will make sure we have lots of low points items on the retreat! lots of girls who hang at the store do WW. My mom is a lifer. I can tell you the points of every restaurant in town, in fact... a quick hint, 2 chicken soft tacos at taco johns, only 6 points. Did you know that tomato juice and pickles are both free? enjoy! oh and I make killer hot air popped popcorn with spray butter!

I am also a WW lifer. LOVE THE PROGRAM! Love my new figure. Love feeling "thin". I can run like a banshee! (OK. Maybe a slow banshee, but oh well....I can do it!) I have so much more energy. Congrats on taking the step. Stick to it. You will feel and look great!

I love how so many of you know and love WW. And thanks a ton for all the support!

Kristi O, You ROCK! That little taco tip is worth its weight in gold. You don't even know...

SC, I'll have to email you for tips too!

Shawn, You inspire me. No wonder you're a preacher. You should post your "before" and "after" pics (I've decided I probably should take a proper "before" picture just so I have something to compare my "after" against...)

Chris, thanks so much for visiting! Please come back!

Spammon, I'm just afraid they'll kick me out if I keep that up. I still haven't figured out how many points a Sonic breakfast burrito has. (They sure are good, aren't they, Pinkmorning?)

Zellmer, I would totally go weigh in the morning but that was the only intro class they had. But I promise, as soon I as I go to the follow-up meeting this week I'll start going to morning meetings (I'd weigh naked if I could, but I think that's be worse than the Sonic burrito faux paus)

Kapuana, You're too sweet! :)

Yeah Shauna! May I recommend getting Strep throat as a jump start to your weight loss? I lost 10 pounds in three days! Seriously though, good luck with WW. You can do it! Can't wait to see the new you--as I am planning on bringing a new me.

Good for you Shauna...

WW really does work...I know a few lifers and they swear by it. I have done it a few times, but slacked off and quit. But it does wonders when you stick to the plan.

Thanks for sharing.
