Detangle Me!

Okay, so here’s the thing. I love this L’Oreal Kids Tangle Tamer and not for the reasons you might think.

It’s not because of Rosie O’Donnell’s shameless product promotion on the View before she lost her Jujubes in that argument with Elizabeth Survivor.

And it’s not because it’s a magic potion that unravels knotty, little-girl hair. Oh, no, that’s not it at all.

It’s because my Pretty Leah with the long, stick-o-matic hair BELIEVES that it works.

I start to brush her hair, and it feels like Bob Marley’s dreads have sprouted from her noggin. “Mommy,” she pleads. “Use the detangler!” And I soak her hair with that burst of sweet pear and whataya know, it’s still like the girl’s channeling the King of Reggae. But does she squeal? Does she squirm? Does she cry? Nope. It’s magic. It’s the tangled hair placebo. And I love it!

sounds like that detangler deserves a place next to the barbie(princess, spongebob or current favorite character) bandaids, you know the ones i mean...when accompanied by a mother's kiss, they make all boo-boos better.

That is so good to know! When/if my 21 month old EVER sprouts hair, I'm all about detangling placebos :)

My little one has had a full head of hair since birth. I need to get some of this!

Thanks also for the addition to your blogroll :-)

That's a good tactic... as long as they THINK it's working, just go with it! My mom probably used that tactic with us kids plenty of times growing up!

Haha!

I am ALL about having my kids buy into false beliefs in products. After all.. that is what AMerica is all about too. The Premium gas is ten cents more, but does anyone know that it is better? No.

When Leah was here I just used Rory's Pantene conditioner on her and it combed out fine. I know, how pathetic is it that I spend that much for conditioner for my 2 year old. Rory's problem isn't knots, it's static (mine, too) and this is the only thing I can find that gets rid of it all day. We even tried some serum from Sally's--no go! That's funny that it doesn't even help. It really is like that comment above--band-aids make it all better.

Her hair is always easy to comb out after a bath. But let's be honest, I don't have my kids bathe everyday if they don't have to (the nurse told me once their dry skin was a result of too much bathing, so we backed off a bit). So every other day her hair is easy to brush, in the morning at least, after we wash it. But after a good romp on the tramp with the sprinkler running underneath, or even breakfast with pancake syrup, it's all over. (Static can be a problem for us too--especially post-trampoline jumping).

Why do they always get food in their hair? Syrup is the worst--followed closely by orange. All of Rory's hair can be on top of her head save one lone strand and voila--food all over it! Sometimes she's not even eating:) BUt that's probably why her hair is short--oh that and it's pretty thin.

I've gotta tell you, I've been so tempted to cut Leah's hair short these last few months. And she'd probably let me, but just love it so much (I always wanted my hair super long when I was little--Eek. I'm one of this vicarious parents...)

Shauna, I hear you. My daughter had really long hair until about 5 months ago. I was living a little vicariously too I think. On the off chance that I had time to curl it(and she would allow it), it looked gorgeous. However, most of the time she was a straggly mess. I have to say I have loved her hair short and it grows so fast!!! I am taking to her to get it chopped again tomorrow. I will probably stop when she in 2nd grade and then by the time it is really long, she will be in grade 3 or 4 and she will hopefully take better care of her hair. (I do have to say I mourned a little at first)

Maybe we'll have to take the plunge. I do think little girls with short, sassy haircuts are so cute (your daughter and Erin's Rory are perfect examples). Your plan sounds like a good one. When I cut her hair (i.e. trim her bangs) she always says, "Hair grows fast, right?" The girl's probably more prepared for the change than I am...
